After my long 16 hour flight in from Dallas, I made it to Brisbane at about 6:00 AM. I was terrified to go through customs, but I made it through. All they did was have a dog sniff my luggage and called it good. We were met at the airport by a staff member from Queensland University of Technology (QUT) the University that we have been partnered up with here in Australia. She took us back to her house for some breakfast and showers before doing a little bit of sight seeing before we met up with our host families. Every time I go to get in the car I always go to the wrong side and driving through town confuses me!! Good thing I don't have to do any driving - It wouldn't be pretty. We got to do some sight seeing of the city from a look out point high above Brisbane. It was BEAUTIFUL!! We could see all the way across the bay to some of the near by islands as well as to down town Brisbane.
Then we went down to the city and drove around a bit. We got out for a brief moment at a park along the river to take in some more sights. It is absolutely beautiful. I love the mixture of buildings yet greenery and shrubs.

We went to some of the main shops and i found Louis Vuitton, Coach, Chanel, Starbucks, a store that sells Kardashian Kollection, and of course Tiffany & Co. After that we got on the highway to head up to the suburb of Caboolture - where the University is and near my home stay families house. We had a light snack while we got to meet the host family's and get plans set for the week. After that we were free to head back to our homes. We took the scenic route around Morayfield, as my host family showed me some of the local attractions and the school I will be teaching in. Then we headed to their house where I met their dog and pet chickens. I got a tour of the house and the yard - which is literally heaven. I held a baby chick and even let one of the chickens sit on my shoulder. I went with Lynda, my host mom back to town to run some errands. We went to the mall - they call it the shops. It isn't like any mall I have ever seen. They have all their stores - grocery, pharmacies, clothing, etc. together in a mall. They even have a post office there. YOU NEVER HAVE TO LEAVE!!! Just Kidding :) We went for a brief stroll through Target - which smells the same as the targets in the states do :) then headed back home to get dinner started. I then spent some time on facebook uploading pictures, when one of my host brothers told me to look at the white cockatoo out my window. To my surprise I saw these two huge birds sitting only a few feet away from the house.
